Time of Growth June 3, 2014

Two weeks ago I started a new post that I thought I would publish on the very day I was inspired to post it. Well, that didn’t happen. It is currently saved in my drafts and will be posted at a later date. The fact that it isn’t complete doesn’t stop me from writing today, however! If you’re familiar with my blog, you know that my mind tends to wander and I can ramble so as I type this I can’t even remember what exactly I wanted to write about today. Geez!

I was read last night in a book that in 2 Chronicles 32:31 God “left” Hezekiah to test him to find out what was in his heart. It made me think about the opposition that I’ve felt for quite some time now and ask “Am I being tested?” Of course,  God doesn’t HAVE to test us to examine our hearts. He already knows them just as He knew us before were formed (check out Jeremiah 17:10, 1:5, 1 Samuel 16:7, Acts 15:8, and Psalm 134:13). So why do we see this “separation” with Hezekiah. The test isn’t for God to actually see what’s in our hearts, but for us to see it. Moment of truth: I don’t like what I’ve seen lately. Moment of confessionI’ve seen anger, bitterness, despair, frustration, and have had the inclination to not only quit, but give up. Oh, trust me when I say that I have tried to be put on a façade, but those traits had taken root within me and overpowered my “fakeness”.

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice”- Ephesians 4:31

“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you”- James 1:21

What I’ve been searching for has now been found in James 1:21. The New Living Translation beginning at verse 19 says, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls”.

I have God’s Word in me, therefore, I have the power to overcome and pull out these bad roots.

Good produces good and bad produces bad. Wouldn’t you agree? Galatians 5:22-25 – “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives” Thank You Lord for truth, love, and hope! I won’t dwell on what I haven’t had, but rejoice that I can have and produce these great fruits.

If a farmer or gardener wants quality fruits, veggies, or flowers, he or she must put the correct seeds in the soil. Otherwise, one shouldn’t be surprised to get tulips when lilies were planted. I’m choosing this day to plant, water, and nourish all things that are good and pleasing unto the Lord.
